Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty is the opposite of academic integrity. It includes, but is not limited to, engaging in, attempting to engage in, or assisting others to engage in any of the actions below:

• Plagiarism
  • Plagiarism occurs when an individual submits or presents the work of another person as their own. Examples of plagiarism include, but are not limited to:
    • Failure to use in-text citations, references, and citation styles (i.e., APA, MLA, and CMS) properly.
    • Using another person’s words, ideas, theories, charts, statistics, photographs, etc. without giving credit.
    • Incorrectly quoting another person’s words and ideas.
    • Incorrectly paraphrasing another person’s words and ideas (e.g., patchwriting).
    • Changing data and research or misrepresenting research in any way.
    • Submitting any work that was done by another person (e.g., contract cheating, papermills, copying and pasting, unethical tutoring, etc.).
    • Submitting any work that was generated or modified (i.e., edited, paraphrased, translated) by an AI tool.
    • Submitting any work that was done with another person when group work is prohibited.
    • Re-submitting an assignment created for another course (i.e., self-plagiarism).
• Cheating
  • Cheating occurs when an individual breaks exam or assignment rules to gain an academic advantage. Examples of cheating include but are not limited to:
    • Consulting outside sources on an assignment that are not authorized by the instructor.
    • Failure to comply with Å·ÃÀ¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ Exam Rules.
    • Failure to comply with instructors’ specific Exam Rules.
    • Impersonating someone during an examination or other academic evaluation.
    • Falsifying records, documents, or information.

Å·ÃÀ¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ takes cases of academic dishonesty very seriously. Disciplinary measures that may be imposed on students for academic dishonesty include:

• A letter of reprimand.
• Notation of discipline on the student’s record.
• A failing grade or mark of zero in the course.
• Cancellation of any scholarships, bursaries, or prizes.
• Suspension from the College for a specified period.
• Revocation of a degree or other academic credentials dishonestly or improperly obtained.
• Expulsion from the College.
